Can You Reverse the Effects of The Abortion Pill?

Are you halfway through a medical abortion and second-guessing your decision? If you are looking to reverse the abortion, it may not be too late. There are steps that you can possibly take to undo the first step of a medication abortion. Read below to see if you’re eligible.

How Does the Abortion Pill Work?

Medical abortion, also known as the abortion pill method, involves two different drugs: mifepristone and misoprostol.

The first drug in the abortion pill protocol is mifepristone. Mifepristone prevents the uterus from receiving progesterone, so the embryo cannot grow.

Within 24-48 hours later, misoprostol, the second drug, is taken. This second pill will force your uterus to contract to expel the pregnancy tissue.

How Does Abortion Reversal Work?

Just as the first pill, mifepristone, blocks the uterus from receiving progesterone, the abortion pill reversal procedure (APR) uses progesterone therapy. This method floods the body with progesterone to overcompensate for the abortion pill.

Timing is key and the pill must be taken 24-48 hours after the first abortion pill.

Is Abortion Pill Reversal Safe?

Natural progesterone has been used for decades in the treatment of early pregnancies that are threatening to miscarry because the mother’s progesterone level was too low.

One study showed a success rate of 64% of women who had used this method for the abortion pill reversal with no apparent risk of birth defects.

Begin the Abortion Reversal Process

If you are in the time window of 24-48 hours of taking mifepristone, it’s not too late to change your mind.
